Lone Worker App

Trane is a global leader in HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems, offering solutions across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. They operate internationally to provide innovative heating and cooling solutions that increase energy efficiency for their customers.

The Challenge

Before partnering with Vatix, Trane faced a significant challenge: ensuring the safety of their lone workers, particularly their engineers, who often work at unpredictable hours and in remote locations.

It wasn’t possible for each engineer’s designated supervisor to be available as their emergency contact 24/7, and using a digital buddy system, like messaging over WhatsApp, didn’t offer the reliability or coverage necessary for a business of Trane’s scale.

The Health and Safety team searched for a system that was both comprehensive and easy for their engineers to use. They wanted to simplify the system to ensure high adoption rates among employees by enabling them to use technology they all already had – their mobile phones.

The Solution

To address Trane’s challenges, Vatix implemented its app-based lone worker safety solution, which includes a 24/7 alarm receiving centre and timed alerts.

The solution was easy to integrate with Trane’s existing operations as all employees already carried smartphones, eliminating the need for extra devices.

The app allows engineers to quickly call for help in an emergency, and supervisors no longer have to be on call during late hours, as the system ensures seamless communication through Vatix’s 24/7 monitoring centre.

Engineers were also given the opportunity to test the app during a trial period, during which the team saw how simple and effective the solution was.

Results

By leveraging Vatix’s easy-to-use lone worker app, Trane was able to provide a comprehensive safety net for its employees, improving employee safety and encouraging usage.

The Vatix solution eliminated the need for supervisors to be on constant call, ensuring engineers had round-the-clock safety coverage without burdening management.

Trane now has a lone worker app that ensures compliance with UK safety regulations across all its regions. This means that Trane has a consistent solution for its UK workforce while still keeping only one point of contact within Vatix, which helps streamline communications.

“As a health and safety manager, having a comprehensive system like the Vatix lone worker safety app has been crucial. The 24/7 call-out centre has allowed us to ensure the safety of our engineers without overburdening our supervisors, and the simplicity of the app means our team is actually using it consistently. It’s a system that’s worth the investment because it provides real peace of mind.”
